Q: Do I need to refrigerate CB’s peanut butter?
A: No, but your CB’s Peanut Butter will be best while it is freshest. You can simply store it in a cool, dry place like your pantry.

Q: What does “Barrel Roasted” mean?
A: Barrel roasting is just what it sounds like, roasting in a barrel shaped roaster that rotates while roasting. The small batch size and barrel rotation make it possible to get an even roast that is closely monitored by the “roastmaster” and can be adjusted for each type of nut and other variables that could affect the roast quality. Large production nut roasters use a conveyer roaster and preset settings which can create an uneven roast and removes the craftsman’s judgement from the process.

Q: Why aren’t your in-shell peanuts organic?
A: Almost all organic peanuts grown in the U.S. are grown for peanut butter and are only available to us shelled. Since we are committed to using only produce grown in the USA, we cannot offer organic in-the-shell peanuts.

Q: What happened to the in-shell Valencia peanuts?
A: Valencia peanuts are grown only in a very small region of eastern New Mexico and due to their naturally sweet flavor, the only remaining producer is dedicating their crop to shelled sales for peanut butter.

Q: Who is CB and what’s so special about CB’s Nuts?
A: CB is Clark Bowen, a nut fanatic who has made it his mission to bring his love of great tasting fresh nuts to others. Clark realized that the key to great taste was small batch roasting and shortening the time between production and consumption (the fresh in FRESH). Originally obsessed with peanuts, Clark and his wife Tami have expanded the business to include other great tasting and healthy nuts and seeds.

Q: Isn’t an Heirloom (a.k.a. Naked) Pumpkin Seed just a Pepita?
A: No. The Styrian pumpkin has grown for over 400 years in the Styrian region of Austria where its naturally hulless seeds are grown for its oil, which is used like olive oil. The pepita on the other hand is a shelled pumpkin seed, shelling being a process that is highly water intensive and not sustainable.

Q: How can I get my local store to carry your products?
A: A request means more when it comes from you, so please mention our products to your retailer and drop us an email with the their contact information so that we can follow up by sending them some samples and our wholesale information.

Q: Do you do wholesale?
A: Yes.

Q: What’s “Creamunchy”?
A: The grind from our machine is a mid-coarse blend that we really love, we named it “Creamunchy” because it’s not creamy, and it’s not crunchy, but the perfect in-between.

Q: Is there anything in your peanut butter besides peanuts?
A: No, CB’s Peanut Butter is made from fresh roasted peanuts, period (and we are proud of that).

Q: Why does shipping cost so much?
A: There are many factors that determine the cost of shipping. Many of our items don’t weigh much, but they have bulk or volume, that can add to the cost of freight. If you live in a rural area that too can affect freight cost. Although this may sound like a shameless up-sell, it often times makes more sense to order multiple items vs. just one. We utilize the best rates available to us via FedEx, we add zero markup.

Q: Why do your products cost more?
A: Our products cost more because we take more time — more time in sourcing the best in USA crops, in adding just the right amount of salt or flavors, or in the case of our peanut butter, the long slow roast we develop in our antique barrel roaster. It takes more time to develop the full profile flavor we demand of our products.

Q: What’s the shelf life of your products?
A: Our guidelines for freshness and best taste: Peanut Butter – 1 year (no need to refrigerate); Peanuts in-the-shell – 6 months; Pumpkin seeds – 1 year. Best stored in a cool dry place like your pantry or cupboard. Eat them as fresh as you can!

Q: Are most other pumpkin seeds on the grocery store shelf really foreign grown?
A: 95% of the pumpkin seeds on grocery store shelves are grown in China. Labeling laws make it possible to hide this fact by importing raw product and processing it in the U.S. We have personally visited our growers in the U.S. and Austria (where our heirloom Styrian pumpkin seeds are grown) and can attest to their growing practices and environmental stewardship.

Q: Do I eat the whole (white) pumpkin seed/shell?
A: Yes, but chew it well and enjoy the chewy texture. The insoluble fiber is good for you.

Q: Doesn’t USDA Organic mean it was grown in the US?
A: No, it simply means that the grower and producer have met standards set by the USDA for certification.

Q: Is it true eating nuts regularly can make me healthier?
A: We’ll let the Boston Globe take that one — “New Harvard research provides the strongest evidence to date that eating nuts can reduce a person’s risk of dying from cancer, heart disease, and a number of other causes.” Read more of the story here.

Q: If I have a peanut allergy, can I eat CB’s other nuts & seeds?
A: At this time our products are manufactured in a facility and with equipment that processes peanuts, tree nuts and seeds, so a person with a peanut allergy would not want to risk eating our other products — HOWEVER, we have plans to separate our peanut and non-peanut production in the near future, so please check back now and then for an update.
